About
The Cyber Security Awareness and Practice course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to understand, identify, and prevent cybersecurity threats in modern digital environments. Designed for professionals working in residential childcare, education, and other care or support settings, the course focuses on protecting personal data, maintaining system integrity, and meeting legal and regulatory requirements under UK law and Ofsted expectations. Learners will explore the key principles of cybersecurity, including the terminology, tools, and techniques used to safeguard information and systems. They will examine common cyber threats such as malware, phishing, and data breaches, and learn how to implement best practices such as strong password management, multi-factor authentication, data backups, and secure software updates. Through interactive learning, learners will also gain practical experience with industry-recognised cybersecurity tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, and antivirus software, and will develop an understanding of how to respond effectively to cybersecurity incidents. The course highlights the importance of having a robust incident response plan and maintaining compliance with key legislation including the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and the Computer Misuse Act 1990. In addition, the course addresses Ofsted’s requirements for data protection and online safety, supporting organisations to demonstrate good governance and effective leadership in safeguarding digital systems and personal information. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with the confidence and competence to apply cybersecurity best practices in their professional roles, ensuring safe, ethical, and legally compliant use of digital technology.
